This week is Thanksgiving for myself and my other American friends- which brings with it all the stresses of family and the warm toasty feeling you get if you're one of the lucky ones.

We're not one of the lucky ones, unfortunately. Both my husband's family and mine are spread thin and we get together with both sides (independently) after the day. We usually end up spending Thursday with our two kids, wearing our pajamas all day and watching football. This year, my husband finally talked me into NOT making a huge feast- but it was a hard battle on his part because Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love making that stupid turkey and all the pies and the sides. I love having an excuse to play the Great Pumpkin Waltz over Alexa. I love how sweltering the kitchen gets and the hard bite of cold air on your face when you step outside.

Am I romanticizing things? Probably.

So this year, I'm NOT making pecan pie or a fourteen-pound bird. Instead, we bought a split breast and some drumsticks, which I can roast to my heart's content. We're picking up pre-made mashed potatoes (via Wegmans!) and we bought a pitifully small bag of bread crumbs for stuffing (gluten-free, of course.) But my house will smell good and my hip won't be screaming by the end of the day (hopefully.)
